SLOTOTIN 40 is a strongly acidic, fluorine-free, matte pure tin plating solution that produces a finely crystallized, silky, matte finish. The system is mainly used for continuous plating, but can also be used for rack and barrel plating with a reduced tin content. The tin layer is deposited in grain sizes of 3 - 8 μm, which means that there is less tendency for whiskers to form in comparison to bright tin layers with grain sizes of less than 1 μm. The deposited tin layer contains only a very small amount of organic compounds, for example, carbon, which accounts for only about 0.005% of the total weight. The additives of the system do not change during deposition, so that the carbon content of the deposited layer remains low after a long plating period.SLOTOTIN 40 tin plating layers show good solderability and fusibility even after a 155 °C, 16 hour aging test. The process has been developed for lead-free plating of a wide range of workpieces, with coatings suitable for all lead-free, tin-based solder alloys.
The plating is suitable for all lead-free, tin-based solder alloys. The plating of the system meets the requirements of the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU regarding the restriction of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). The instructions are based on laboratory data and practical experience. The given operating ranges and subsequent supplemental quantities are only indicative. Actual values may also be influenced by component material, geometry, specific application, as well as workshop and equipment conditions.
